In the Hands of a Mischievous God
by Theodora Sarah Abigail
I bought this randomly, and I'm really glad I did.
In nine essays (plus a prologue and an afterword), the author wrote about her life and her relationships with her mother and family. Occasionally the essays zoom out and connect themselves into a wider discussion on certain issues, like what being a woman means, but I found that the writing is strongest when the writer focused on her life. She dissected her memories frankly for the most part, though there were several parts where I wish the author had dug deeper.
The observations resonate strongly, the writing gorgeous - direct and vivid. I particularly enjoyed the refreshing way she used familiar metaphors. All in all, a beautiful book.
