Belonging: A German Reckons with History and Home by Nora Krug
4.0
4.5 this graphic memoir makes perhaps some if the best and most interesting visual choices i have ever seen in such a book. its use of collage, interjecting pages, overlapping images, color, and images spanning across pages is incredibly effective in aiding the written word of this story. i was especially struck by the spread of her fathers and uncles images being split along the front and back of the page so the reader must turn the page to see the second image. the story itself is interesting and handled well. as an american who has been studying german for almost ten years now it was very interesting to read a first hand perspective of the impact of the nazis on someone removed from the time period.
