The Razor's Edge by W. Somerset Maugham

2.0

I was disappointed in this book. It seems like a shallow survey of different paths through life - the socially acceptable (marriage for women and business for men) vs the unconventional (choosing spiritual experiences or sexual freedom over material security). The narrator often has a supercilious tone that undermines any deep exploration and the characters are all too self-absorbed to do more than spin into each other’s orbit for a brief encounter and then spin out again.
