The movie was already one of my all time favourites so I knew I'd love the book, and it definitely was even better than the adaptation. I loved the fact the chapters were really short because I prefer them. This was an instant 5/5 and a new favourite of mine. Some of the stories and the quotes from this book will forever be with me. Even though I don't have any diagnosis of mental illness, I felt really close to Susanna: I think that is because this is also the story of a teenage girl who feels disconnected from the world she lives in, which is something I have experienced and still experience, like many other young women.
Graphic: Mental illness
Moderate: Death, Drug use, Adult/minor relationship, Eating disorder, Injury/Injury detail, Forced institutionalization, Schizophrenia/Psychosis , Self harm, Suicide, Suicide attempt, Cursing, Excrement, Medical trauma, and Suicidal thoughts
Minor: Sexual assault, Addiction, Sexism, and Blood
