The Shadow Box by Luanne Rice

3.0

Claire has what appears to be the perfect life. Her husband is a prominent prosecuting attorney making a run for Governor of Connecticut, she has a beautiful home, and she’s an artist.

Why would someone want her dead?

I was enthralled by the opening of this book where Claire is fighting for her life after a masked man attempted to murder her. The writing was so good, so captivating. Then somehow it tapered off. I struggled with how much unnecessary information was thrown at me (to be honest, I started to skim those sections) and how the timeline seemed to jump around a bit. Then around the 75% mark it started picking back up.

I feel like The Shadow Box had the potential to be a great book, but it fell a bit short for me. There were places where I wanted more details (especially regarding the secret society) and other parts I didn’t need so much (the workings of a boat motor). Entertaining enough to be a 3/5 stars.
