The Nixie's Song by Holly Black, Tony DiTerlizzi

Definitely not as good as the Spiderwick Chronicles. I have several qualms: Laurie lies too easily and always gets away with it, there's language (albeit brief), and Jared (my favorite character from the original series) reappears as a total jerk. And somehow The Nixie's Song is, overall, just much less engaging. It's missing some of the magic from the original books. I'm a little bit curious to read the following two books, mostly because I'm wondering about Jared, but I don't know if I will. In my opinion, the authors should have left it at the original series.
