The Iron Trial by Holly Black, Cassandra Clare
3.0

Okay. For people saying this is a ripoff of Harry Potter, y'all are ridiculous. The only Harry Potter elements are magic and a kid who is somehow connected to the villain (yes I know how, I've read the book). This book is VERY DIFFERENT from what I was expecting because so many people said it was HP remade.

01/06/2021 Update:
I can't believe I said that. For those of you who see this, please know that YES, this IS a Harry Potter rip-off. I quit after a few books because they literally did EXACTLY what happens in Harry Potter.
Let's see... How does it work? Here are a few things that this series does that tie in with HP:
A young boy goes to a magic school (check)
Makes friends with a boy and girl (check)
Is connected to the villain (check)
Has abilities that only the villain has (check)
There's a teacher who teaches him (check)
Has showdowns with the villain or the villain's minions each book (check)
Spoiler dies and comes back because villain shizz (check)

I've heard a lot about how Cassandra Clare has gotten in trouble for plagiarism before, and I understand it now. Plus, we all know she enjoys Harry Potter. Holly Black, though. I expected better of her.
