When We Lost Our Heads
by Heather O'Neill
To be alive is to be in a contestant state of revolution.
This book gave me not one but two audible gasp moments which I normally find challenging to discover while reading because my mind is always working so fast to predict surprises.
This novel is a work of art. It is devastating, triggering, grotesque, and outrageous. There is not a single thing which is politically correct and that’s the point. The themes of sex, gender identity, feminism, and classes were a mastermind of art written by Heather O’Neil. The incredible story telling while discussing themes of abortion were also incredibly powerful. I felt sorrow, anger, jealousy, compassion, and disturbed every time I sat down and picked up the book. Very thought provoking.
It was a slow burn as some may describe it but I felt hooked from beginning to end. I kept making time in my day to read more and more.
