After talking with a friend about the way I choose books now and thinking about the way I chose books when I was in my 20s I decided to run an experiment. I described a bunch of books that I think were pretty influential for me in "learning adulting" to chatGPT and told it what I liked about it. Then I asked chatGPT to tell me a book that I would like that was written by a woman.
This was the result and I liked this collection of short stories quite a bit. It was probably a 4 star book up till the final story and this line, which probably won't resonate as much with anyone who grew up in the age of social media:
"I tried to start another Edith Wharton novel, but I can't concentrate in the silence of the phone not ringing."
