The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

5.0

Phew! It's a tear-jerker for sure, but didn't feel forced or that it was manipulating my emotions. I finished it while on a holiday (shared a cottage rental with my parents) and had to take a few minutes to emotionally recover from it, prompting my mother to say "you are not to read another book like that if we are to do this again!". Ok, noted.

It's a fantastic read and after the recent run of women doing courageous things during the Second World War, this one is far and away my favourite.
