Honestly, just more of the same teenage paranormal romance dreck. And I had high hopes for this one, being based on classic Greek mythology. But even that isn't immune from the paranormal romance curse.

The good thing about reading this was that I finally figured out why I have such a hard time reading teen paranormal romance. It's that the genre routinely forgets to include much "paranormal" in the story. Sure, we hear that the characters are vampires/werewolves/zombies/faeries/mutant squirrels from outer space, but most of the "action" is nothing more than typical teenage drama over what boy you like or what girl was mean to you or how bratty your little brother is and your parents don't understand you *sad trombone*. If there was some actual, I dunno, paranormal actiony-stuff going on (and not just "Ooh, that guy's so grim and dark and gritty and OMG nose ring! He must be some super-sexy nighttime werecreature, om nom nom"), I would enjoy this more. I want to see the paranormal going on, not just be told about it. I want to see the underworld and the sources of these myths in the story, not hear about it in a 12th Grade English Lit lecture. Maybe the action came later, but I didn't want to stick around the full six months that Nikki was determined to hold out for (also - it was disconcerting to have her be called both "Nik" and "Becks" - I couldn't keep track of who they were talking about half the time).
