Enchanting the Dragon Lord by Alisha Klapheke

4.0

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and I can’t remember why I didn’t read this one at the time. It’s just as much fun as the other two, but since there are shared characters and stories, I wish I had read them closer together when I remembered everything better.

The story is very exciting - lots of action, great characters and interesting details of the elven court. Princess Brielle of Wylfen hates her father and his persecution of magic wielders and witches, but she feels powerless to help. Until one day an Elven dragon crashes into her courtyard and she ends up needing to flee with a witch she rescues from the dungeon. The Elf who turns into a dragon is the Crown Prince of neighboring Balaur who Wylfen has been making war on for decades. Dorin and Brielle need to find a way to make peace between the two countries.

Brielle is a great character - strong, curious, brave, determined. It took me a bit to warm up to Dorin - he was being kind of an idiot in the first half of the book - very, poor, poor me I’ll have to exile myself for the good of my family. I get it, he was dealing with a lot, but he’s sort of a jerk about it. (Werian says it best when he calls Dorin “you tumult of determined agony” - I love Werian.) And, these people really need to learn how to communicate!
