The Nesting Place by Myquillyn Smith

I was looking for some home inspiration and this book was recommended to me, so I gave it a go! I have read another book by the author, but that one I listened to on audio, this one was lovely to read electronically to see lots of the pictures of things described in the book.

It was interesting to hear of all the different houses and apartments the author have lived in, as someone who has move many, many times I can relate to a lot of the challenges that go with that. You can also really feel that it was work to find the things that worked, what stuck over time, what was let go of and the embracing of the subtitle - it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.

That said, I did find a few things challenging with the book, but they are mostly personal perspective stuff, not about home decor. But it included things like "We as women do this...." as well as a fair amount of religious references, and both of those perspectives felt non-inclusive. Not only women love to work on their homes, and not all people follow the same religious path (and some don't follow any religious path). I get that often this kind of thing is there to draw the reader in, but if you don't agree with the statement, it can cut the reader out. I didn't let it stop me from learning about approaches to designing a home, as well as some pretty good advice handling people that both love (or don't love) your home, but it did bring the enjoyment of reading down a notch.

But, I am inspired to work on my home, which was the intent of reading the book so that mission has been accomplished.
