Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers
3.0

I hate that I feel this way, but I'm afraid that if I had read the book first, I might not have bothered to see the movie. In my honest opinion, this is one of very few cases where the movie is better than the book (and it seems akin to sacrilege to say so). The Mary Poppins in the book is very vain, conceited, and unapproachable. How the children become quite so attached to her is beyond me. At the same time, however, I hate that P.L.Travers' work was so bastardized by Disney. She clearly had a vision and it seems to have been misrepresented by Disney. Though, I think, that may be for the best as the Disney version is well-known and well-loved.
