Mending Life: A Handbook for Repairing Clothes and Hearts by Nina Montenegro, Sonya Montenegro

This is as cheesy as you think it is, but also quite useful in all the situations for which I needed it. I learned to sew when I was young, but strangely I was not taught how to mend, and I wear my work clothes hard and hate to get new ones just to undergo the same treatment. This is a brief and totally practical guide to a bunch of basic mending techniques, infused with the ethos of mending as not just an action but as an attitude towards living. I'm not sure I believe that "There's nothing broken that can't be fixed." But: "Perhaps many of us fear failure, believing that we will make the problem worse, turning a small hole into an even bigger one. But even if we do, the bigger hole can still be mended."
