Retribution Falls by Chris Wooding

I wanted to give this book 3 stars, but it took 4 stars from me because there is nothing really wrong with this book. It's a decent book. It treads the thin line between fun and serious. Often, while reading, you don't know what the author is really aiming for, but that's alright. It's not a book that takes itself seriously but it's a lot of other things when you look at it from a distance. Some very nice ideas are explored in the book. The plot is set a nice pace. The characters are unique and endearing. All of them come with their own backstories. There are moments that are set up from the beginning and they do deliver when the shit hits the fan.
It's a very nice manual on how to write a book that can be made into a movie from the get-go.
But something kept irking me about the book. I really don't know what it is. Maybe I'll read book 2 and I'll get an idea.
So, yeah. Read this one if you are looking for something light between heavy readings. Or if you want your steampunk fix after reading Senlin Ascends.
