ytrujillo1 's review for:
Even in Paradise
by Chelsey Philpot
Okay, so this will be the first post I've ever done for this site on a book in general.
To everyone who says that this is like THE GREAT GATSBY, I get it, but this book is literally a carbon copy of BRIDESHEAD REVISITED. The characters genders were switched, but come on!
It's all there, from the main characters names, Julia, Charlie, and Sebastian, to the overbearing mothers, who honestly have no idea how to deal with their children, to the lovable Papa, the older brother, who in BRIDESHEAD is seen as a joke, but here is pretty cool (you get cool points for that Ms. Philpot), and to the little sister who is too naive for everyone, a wholesome innocence within the family.
I mean, I can go on, but I honestly was so annoyed that I was reading a teen version to one of my favorite books. I'll give you this, it was a good book, but I still COULD NOT look past the fact that you used the same plot, names, and somewhat close circumstances for the book.
Overall, it was good but not good enough. I'm sorry. But this annoyed me beyond belief and I tried really hard not to get annoyed.
