Perhaps this is surprising, but this is actually my first truly finished Jane Austen novel. (Sorry Ms. Osick, I never finished Sense & Sensibility in the 10th grade.) I knew the plot line quite well for this novel, which made it a pleasant and easy read while crocheting on planes, etc. I guess I can understand why this is such a perennial favorite for so many, but I can’t say I quite get the obsession. I didn’t feel a lot of attachment to Elizabeth or Darcy. I thought Jane and Bingley were more sympathetic characters, though Bingley loses points for having this affections and attentions so easily diverted by a friend. I wonder if this book is one of those cases where people feel so much devotion to it because of nostalgia, having first read it when they were younger. Not that there is anything wrong with that! I just think I missed the Jane Austen bandwagon.
