The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

5.0

When I went into this book, I only had a brief understanding of what it was really about and had purchased it around the time of the movie release. I'd heard good things, but I was a bit intimidated to read it because of the length. Now, I'm so glad that I did. This has easily become one of my favorite books that I've ever read, which I'm definitely surprised about.

I think that if the premise seems interesting to you, then you should give this book a read. There were a lot of long paragraphs of detail, but if you wanted, you could easily skim those parts without missing anything important. The book wasn't extremely fast paced, but I found it seemed a lot shorter than I'd originally anticipated.

I loved the characters as well, and found Theo to be a likable narrator. While he failed to make the best decisions at some points, he saw the world for what it was and still hoped to make the most of his life in the midst of dealing with his personal struggles. There was so much to like about this book, and when I finished, I was surprised about how sad I was to be done. I will really miss these characters, especially Boris and Theo.
