The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough

4.0

I read this book for my book club. I had heard of it before and was excited to read it, although I had literally no idea what it was about at all.

It ended up being a bittersweet, at times heartbreaking, saga of a large family. The focus was on Meggie from the beginning, and my biggest complaint with the novel is probably that her involvement--so important for about 80%--suddenly dies off. Not that Justine wasn't interesting, I suppose, but the distance from Meggie made everything much harder to care about. She was the heart of the book, in both the moments where I wanted to smack her and those where I wanted to cheer her on.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this book overall!
