Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

3.0

3.5 stars

Legendborn follows Bree as she deals with the grief of her mothers death, and her need to find out what happened. But while she’s ok this journey she comes to realize her mothers past is more complicated then she expected.

This book is written very well and it’s definitely a book I would recommend to everyone. I found it was a bit too slow in the first half, but it picked up the pace after and caught my attention. The battle scenes are great, and the characters all have some depth to them.

A big theme in Legendborn is the racism Bree experiences, and it is written so so well. One of my favourite parts of this book. Racism is not the main theme, but it’s written and integrated into the rest of the story so well. Bree suffers through so much and partly the reason I’m hoping she isn’t with Sel or Nick by the end of this series is because of their naivety towards what she is experiencing. And she’s a powerful independent woman who don’t need no man !!! She showed them both up so hard in this (This all being said I can totally see why people can ship her with either of them, I’m not completely against it)
Side note: I wanna say I know both Sel and Nick can understand her grief as they have all lost a parent, but Bree is experiencing so much more than that which they ARE naive to. If anything I think Sel would understand her greif more because of their similar situations with grief, that although they are different, they almost reflect each other.

I gotta say!!!! I loveeee how Tracy wrote a love triangle without making the darker broody one toxic or a bully. She wrote two great love interests and both can be argued as the best option for her (I say neither but you know that). We so rarely see two good love interests in love triangles, usually one is the obvious wrong option, but this one was written amazingly.

The only reason I took off 1.5 stars is because it was slow at first, and some of the plot got so confusing so fast. Some characters really annoyed me (Alice) and I wasn’t a fan of how some switched up at the end without an explanation (ex. they were really nice or changed suddenly)

This being said I’m very much looking forward to reading the sequel!! And if you follow my instagram (@aliyahzreads) you might’ve seen Simon and Schuster sent me an ARC for Bloodmarked and with this ending I need to start it asap
