As soon as I finished Bloodlines, I wasted no time jumping into The Golden Lily. I have to be honest, I forgot just how much I enjoy the slow, intense build of a good series. Because I suck at finishing them, I've found myself totally reluctant to even start new ones anymore. The good news is, I have A LOT of unfinished series to get to, so I'll get to experience that feeling without the frustration of waiting for the next chapter in a story. But, I digress.

The Golden Lily wastes no time jumping right into the story where the first book left off. Dimitri and Sonya joined the Bloodlines cast and I was really happy to see them again. There was more action in this book than the first and I feel like I breezed right through the audio. While I loved the overall story, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that Sydney's character development is my favorite thing about it. Or, well, right behind the relationship slowly building between Sydney and Adrian. But, for real, the way Sydney is questioning her upbringing and opening her mind to the possibility that things aren't quite so black and white makes me happy. She really grows during this book, and I know that growth continues throughout the rest of the series.

And Adrian, oh Adrian. There aren't words for just how much I love him. His flirtatious, funny banter is one of my favorite things. I like how he gets under Sydney's skin, too. Great things are to come in this series and again I have to say I'm thrilled I decided to reread. It's exactly what I needed in my life.
