The Light Behind the Window by Lucinda Riley
3.0

I enjoyed this story a lot, but found I was aware of the writing in a way that annoyed me and some of the plot direction was painfully obvious from early on. Emilie the modern heroine was a good character and despite her gullibility feeling a little unrealistic her story was enjoyable.

The story of Constance was equally interesting and she was also a likeable character who endured difficulties during the war.

Of course my story set partly during WW2 is bound to have sadness as well as potential for love and heroics, parts of this telling were missing authenticity.

I left the story being pleased to have read it but also feeling that it could have been better.
