The Marriage Hex by Sarah Blue
Did not finish book. Stopped at 39%.
I tried so hard to like The Marriage Hex, but unfortunately, I have to call it. Despite not liking the writing, I could've gotten over it if the enemies part of the enemies-to-lovers wasn't so nonsensical.
It's never really explained why Violet's witch coven (she's the heir) and Silas's wolf pack (of which he's the new Alpha) are enemies in the present. But there's a history of bad actors on both sides, resulting in death. Yet, Silas - who just moved into town - immediately casts the witches as bad and doesn't acknowledge that the wolf pack could also be culpable.
Worse, Silas equates his need to be loyal to the wolves to Violet's need to be loyal to her coven. It's a nice thought and important for an Alpha to think that way. But, practically speaking, besides his beta, who's his bff (and who came with him to town), he doesn't know anyone in the pack -- they're all strangers. In contrast, Violet's coven comprises her grandmother and found family (plus their moms and grandmoms). Her coven raised her from 16 years old and onward, making Silas's loyalty to a pack that vilifies his mate’s coven incredibly weird. Like he's choosing actual strangers over her.
And I get that he has abandonment issues over Violet ghosting him when they were 16, but shouldn't he be glad that she escaped and didn't have to live through the same abuse as him?
Basically for a guy that was supposed to be a simp ("it's always been you"), I was very let down.
