The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

I originally skipped these stories because I don’t normally read novellas and I was under the impression these were just backstories and not necessary for the series. However, I was in the middle of Queen of Shadows (book 4) and there were a lot of references to the things that happened in this book. So I decided to stop that book and read this one. I’m so glad I did. Not only did it give me a much better understanding of Celaena, and what happened to her, it was also just a really good book. I liked it much more than Throne of Glass. The only story that I found a little pointless was The Assassin and the Healer, but it was fine.

Overall if you’ve put this book off like I did, I highly recommend going back and reading it! Now I’m off to pick up where I left off in QoS.

Definitely give the audiobooks a shot. The narrator is excellent. Though her male voices are a bit weird/throaty(?), I really like her a lot otherwise. And I love when a narrator reads an entire series. Her voice is like a trigger that brings you back into the world you’ve been waiting to read again.
