This is a fitting end to the series. I like Mare’s final choice, though I wish there were more hints that it might go that way throughout because it does feel sudden when it’s not a feeling she has expressed before. Aveyard excels at writing action sequences that feel dynamic without feeling corny. There’s a lot more political intrigue in this book which I personally enjoyed but I can see how some readers wouldn’t be interested in that.
Evangeline’s growth was nice to watch and I found her POV to be the most interesting. I could have done without the POVs of the boys though. I don’t think they added anything of value to the story and it made some aspects drag on longer than they needed to.
