karis321 's review for:
Charlotte's Web
by E.B. White
I thought it was kinda odd how I never read this book until today, thanks to my lit class, but even if I did read this as a kid, I probably wouldn't thought it was good.
Charlotte is out here being the real MVP while Wilbur just whines the whole time. I know he's under a year old throughout the whole story, but still. Charlotte has the patience and tolerance of a saint not only for putting up with him for so long but for saving his dumbass from being Christmas ham. And all the thanks she gets is her body being left in the trash while Wilbur continues to live his comfy life with her descendants. For being the titular character, Charlotte really got the short end of the stick.
What I do find interesting about this book is how dumb the humans are, with Charlotte's scheme working on them perfectly. I read through some reviews exacerbating how dumb people are for falling for it, but I can kind of see it, especially when people still fall for dumb advertisements today via online overexaggerated hype or stupid internet challenges that come and go.
All in all, there are better kids books out there, but I don't think it's the worst one to sit down with your kid and read. At least Charlotte herself is still an enjoyable character.
