The House of Doors
by Tan Twan Eng
Loved the intertwining stories that were threaded into a greater story and unexpected moments throughout the last half. Such good writing that flowed throughout from beginning to end, with enough depth that allows you to immerse yourself in the various times and places. It's one of those stories with a few "wait, what?" moments where you want to go back and make sure you had read what you read earlier; you'll want to pay attention to every conversation and interaction. Make sure you have Google or another search tool handy for Malaysian terminology if you aren't familiar with it. I did not have a clue what this book was about before reading - popped up on a recommendation list for historical fiction, a genre I enjoy. One of my favorites reads this year so far.
