Watermark
by Joseph Brodsky
Perhaps it was because I've been to Venice so many times myself, or perhaps it was because I was too tired while reading it on the subway, but I didn't love Watermark. Brodsky's treatise on the ancient Italian city is comprised of 48 separate vignettes, some funny and others poignant, and some almost poetic. I believe I'm in the minority, here, but there you go.
