Dacia Wolf & the Prophecy by Mandi Oyster

2.0

I really wanted to love this book!

The first chapter excited me: The little girl who had powers and didn’t know, and was oblivious to the abnormality of it. Her parents didn't know, she didn't live on a society of wizards or wishes, just our regular human world, with no powers or real magic.

Unfortunately after that first chapter everything became none sensical and absurd; Lot of things happened just for the sake of "The plot" and not cause they serve any purpose to the story.

1) This characters (both heroes and villains) where mean to be college students, but they all behave like high school freshmen, and a sort of "MEAN GIRLS" dynamic,

2) Why every single “important” event of the book was a dream? every single important person for Dacia died at least once in this book, but don't worry! it turns out to be a dream EVERY SINGLE TIME. Dacia was meant to have "Premonition powers" which were well put in place the first time she tried to prevent a death, after the author apparently just gave up on the idea, and Dacia only dreamed of the death but was never presented with the opportunity to prevent it in real life. It really bothered me and through me off as a reader.

3) If Dacia is the only human with powers on the whole earth, why the "bad guys" cannot attacked her when she is with her best friend (aka boyfriend) why are they practically terrified of Dacias boyfriend if he is just another human? Like you have the chosen one, with the powers walking with a human and out of no where she is untouchable, but as soon as she is alone everyone can attacked her.

And more important why are they even attacking Dacia if they don't know she has powers? only because the "Mean girl" (who is in coma, and no one knows why) said so before she went on a coma? (None-sensical).

4. The whole plot of this book is "There is a prophecy about a demon who try to destroyed earth every 999 years, and a human born with powers to stop the demon" it has happen in the past, there are books written about it, magical artifacts and so on, but there is not a secret society training to help this "chosen one" or to find him/her and trained him/her to fulfill the prophecy; only one person happens to know about this and coincidentally she ended up been in the same place as the chosen one; even though Dacia was easily trackable based on the uncontrollable usage of her powers. why does the author tried to pull a Dumbledore (Harry potter) on me, if she is not willing to go to the full extend of it?

5. The magic system wasn’t clear and I honestly dislike books in which magic happens because it is convenient for the plot, and not because it makes sense. Dacia had and then do not had powers, just because of it. She had the diary of the previous "Chosen one" and she read it, but then start to develop powers that where not described, just because.

Ex. She controls the weather based on her moods, but halfway through the book it just stopped happening, she was scared, frustrated, angry, and the weather didn't flinch. And as a reader I'm just like "Why?"

Overall the book missed the mark for me. I’m sorry to say this but I am glad it is over!
