Year One by Nora Roberts

This was a book out of my comfort zone, but it was recommended by a friend and sucked me in from chapter one. Any lovers of The Stand by Stephen King I believe will enjoy this story immensely(I personally have seen two miniseries about The Stand myself).
It is about a pandemic that attacks the world and kills off 80% of the world's population. It made me grateful that our world didn't plunge into the chaos described in this novel. On top of the anarchy as well as governments and infrastructure collapsing, people start to emerge with magical powers. Like with all new things, some people are in fear of these magically gifted people and even seek out to destroy them. Now within the magical group, there are some who use their power for evil instead of good. Basically, the world becomes complete and utter chaos. There are a lot of characters in this novel and despite some reviews, I was ok keeping up with their stories. Eventually, the story settles on just one character.
This story was written in 2017 and was apparently the author's homage to The Stand, so unless she can foresee the future, the timing and popularity of this book is pure coincidence. Boy did the author luck out with this book! A highly recommended read even if you are not a fan of the genre.
