This is a really fun little mystery. I loved the setup and trying to work out Avery's connection to the Hawthorne's. Strange family histories abound, although I didn't feel like I got enough answers from this first installment.
I did go in thinking this was a thriller, but it was pretty thriller-lite. Some peril, minimal tension. Much more dramatic than thrilling I'd say. But I did enjoy reading it.
Did the ending satisfy me enough? In some ways yes. In others, not really. I think I wished for more explanations, more connections. Maybe that's something that goes further in the rest of the series, and I may continue reading it. But I'm not completely sold yet.
