War of Hearts: A True Immortality Novel by S. Young

I read this book 1 year ago (maybe even more ). I actually enjoyed it at the time.

The story was interesting and I really liked the way the author wrote the characters' push and pull, their inner conflict. In fact, the characters are really well written and complex.

Unfortunately, I don't remember that much. Well, actually I remember the plot and events in the story quite well (THAT'S never really been a problem unless the book absolutely bored me), the problem is that I don't remember much about my FEELINGS for the story. Which is why I will maintain the rating I gave this book at the time.

Anyway, I this book is really great. The revelation about Thea's identity/nature wasn't that much of a surprise to me (and probably to anyone who reads lots of fantasy/paranormal... Etc...) but the execution was still innovative in its own way and it was interesting to see how she fit in the supernatural world.

The ending as well was quite satisfactory and it was perfect for Thea and Conall.

So, why didn't I give the book an higher rating? Well, while I don't remember my exact reactions when I read the book, I do remeber liking the book but at the same time not feeling completely invested in the story.
And the reason is simple, I didn't really connect with the characters. As I said they are well written and characterized. I was aware they were well written characters, that they were likeable, but at the same time I didn't really care for them.

This is one of those book that rationally you understand why people may give it an high rating, a book that, in a way, deserve it, but at the same time it didn't spark enough love in me for giving it.

In general I would still recommend it to all the people who love the genre. It's still a very good book. It just didn't give ME the necessary sparkle.

And taking into consideration the whole series (so including book 2 and 3, the only other ones published so far), well it's a good one. I mean, sure, the series isn't one of those for which I wait impatiently for the next book (I kind of forget about them until I stumble in the new installment
