Dear Haiti, Love Alaine by Maritza Moulite, Maika Moulite

4.0

I won this from a Goodreads giveaway. It’s the story of Alaina, who’s parents were 1st generation immigrants from
Haiti. Alaina is smart, sarcastic and funny. She lives with her father Jules a psychiatrist. Her parents are divorced and her mother lives in D.C. and works on a fake cnn on a Sunday show called Politicos. Alaina wants to be a journalist like her mom but doesn’t have a great relationship with her. Her mom’s job is time consuming and her daughter often comes second. I loved the writing and the style of the book. it’s part blog, diary, letters and emails and then updates from Alaina. Alaina is given an assignment at school and ends up in Haiti to complete the assignment. She starts to learn about her secret family history and a curse that has been haunting the Gailey for generations. I really enjoyed the book and would love to learn more about Haiti and Alaina.
