Félicie by Georges Simenon

4.0

Inspector Maigret, do I detect a hint of sexual tension between yourself and Félice here? What would Mrs Maigret say about you getting so worked up about about a case eh!
This is a great Maigret mystery and for those that see these exquisite covers in book shops and wonder if they're worth trying then this is a superb place to start.
Félice herself is a marvellous creation and more than a match for the wily old detective who can not help but get completely livid at her attempts of misdirection and lies.
As always with Simenon the atmosphere of mid 20th century France drips off the page. Not since Greene has an author been able to create such cinematic story telling using such few words.
Oh and there's booze. Lots of booze.
