Allegiant by Veronica Roth
1.0

SPOILERS

I have never wanted to cry, wait... sob uncontrolably for a fictional character dying more so than this one! And that is why it only gets 1 star.

She DIES??!!!!! I understand the reasoning for her dying (after reading Veronica Roth's blog as to why she killed her off) but Tris and Four should have started a new life together in the newly reformed community.
They could've, they should've had a happy life. They were better together. They loved each other unconditionally, through everything. And they deserved to have that happy life after the final attack. They should've enjoyed each other, got married, had kids etc etc.
Ok I get that she died honourably and it was all tied in (http://veronicarothbooks.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/about-end-of-allegiant-spoilers.html here's the link and it WILL spoil the ending for you) but she was unique, she was the catalyst. She did it her own way. She was strong and determined. She possessed all the attributes you want in a female protagonist. I could've even coped with one of them having inhaled the memory serum and the other rebuilding their relationship with them, I could've coped with just Uriah dying (though that alone was bad enough!). I get that she made the ultimate sacrifice and she gave her life for thousands of others but there could've been another way. Someone could've watched her back, she could've kept hold of her gun... The possibilities were endless. Oh and why did Peter get to live?
I'm clearly still not over this fictional death and it'll take me a while. Like when Prim died, it took me a while and a second read (after a year) to understand a get over that death. But I'm not sure I'll be rereading this. I can't go through reading Four's pain again. he shouldn't have gone through that pain.
And I guess in that sense VR is a great author for making the reader establish such strong emotional connections to the characters. I loved Divergent and Insurgent, even more so the 2nd time round! But for me this not how the trilogy should have ended.
My fictional character loving heart has well and truly been broken.
