I have wanted to read this book since middle school but never got around to it till now. I mean come on what little girl didn’t want to read a book with a pretty fluffy gown on it?!

Character- 4/5⭐️
America our protagonist is your typical not like other girls girl, but I will say there is a reason that trope is so entertaining. I liked that her character was obviously in the right but also had her flaws. I didn’t always like her which was funny and made her more 3D. I love how the author really put backstory into the other girls that was a nice touch. I took of one star because of Aspen. He is well written but I am never a fan of glorified toxicity.

Conflict- 2.5/5⭐️
I have a feeling this will be better in the next book but this book needed more. Besides the two rebel attacks there wasn’t much more to go on. The stakes were set high at the beginning but did not deliver this time. But I have high hopes for book 2.

Plot- 3.5/5⭐️
Great exposition really set the reader up nicely. The inciting incident and point of no return were clear and interesting. Rising tension was working but the climax hit so unexpectedly it really threw off the good work the author had been doing. And while this is a series I think the build to the climax for book one could have had higher stakes.

Setting- 4/5⭐️
Really interesting concept. I like the idea of social classes slip up into castes it’s a very engaging concept that’s fun to think about. I am excited to see it develop more you can tell the author has a very clear picture in her head of what this world exists as. I only wish it had more description what does the houses look like? What does the land look like?

Theme- 3.5/5⭐️
Be true to yourself, and don’t judge someone based on where they come from. I like the themes you can see the seeds being sown for the future so hopefully those Thea a will be discussed more.

Overall Score: ⭐️3.5/5⭐️

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a bit of magic in their lives. Or if you are a fan of Princess academy.
