It took me two whole months to read all three volumes of Kristin Lavransdatter, and at several points, I thought about just giving up. There were several reasons I struggled with this story. One of them was the slow pace. Kristin Lavransdatter is kind of a slice of life story. There isn’t a plot other than “Kristin lived, Kristin loved, Kristin died.” Every now and again there’d be a bit of excitement, and I’d think, “oh this is going to have lasting consequences that will make the story go a little faster,” but that excitement would only last a good 100 pages or so, and then it would be back to wading through the gunk of the rest of the story...
