Even though it seems likely that Caroline Martin played a role in Ocey Snead's death,

this book highlights how strong, intelligent women were often vilified. This case would be a great topic for an in-depth feminist analysis--how sexism and gender roles factored into people's actions at every level of this case, and impacted the final outcome.
