Completely captivated by this book. More lesbian than you would imagine in 1871. A page turner until the end, when I found myself extremely disappointed by the sudden conclusion. You can’t judge an old book by modern standards, but Le Fanu misses out on action and emotional resolution. Laura and Carmilla have no final words, there is no final fight, no struggle at all. And Laura’s processing of the events left me wanting. Regardless, it’s easy to see why this has inspired centuries of vampire stories and media. Thoroughly enjoyed!!
