The Secret Adversary
by Agatha Christie
My first Tommy & Tuppence book! I was absolutely sure that I couldn’t love another detective (in this case, a pair of detectives) more than I love my Hercule Poirot, but these two come AWFULLY close, let me tell you! The chemistry between these two, the banter and the snark… I just loved it! Nothing by today’s standards, I know, I know. But from the Golden Age… just perfect—*chef’s kiss, I tell you*
Of course, I don’t usually care very much for the book when Agatha goes all spy mode on us, and then too, how unbelievable that the government would take on these two young, inexperienced, untrained detectives to go undercover to help take down an infamous criminal organization—completely unbelievable! But it totally worked for me! I was caught up right away, hook, line, and sinker. And here I was thinking I finally figured out whodunnit this time, and of course, in true Agatha fashion—bam! It was not who I thought it would be. But… there at the end, I began to have an inkling of a notion that it might possibly be someone else, but of course I told myself that couldn’t be so, and then it was! So, I *almost* figured this one out, ha!
If you can’t tell, I really enjoyed this one and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this short series (I’m already wishing it was more books)!
