Cold Days by Jim Butcher
5.0

So, I gotta say, I just finished listening to the audiobook of Cold Days, which is the 14th book in Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series, and I absolutely loved it. The series has a unique quality of getting better with each book, and Cold Days is no exception to that.

One of the most impressive aspects of the series is the way the characters have evolved. Harry Dresden, the protagonist, has grown from a somewhat one-dimensional wizard-for-hire to a complex and multi-layered hero. He's faced numerous challenges throughout the series, and each one has left him a little bit wiser and a little bit more scarred.

In Cold Days, Harry Dresden finds himself in a new role as the Winter Knight, a position that comes with a host of responsibilities and dangers. After being killed at the end of the previous book, Harry is brought back to life as Mab's Winter Knight, and he must do her bidding. However, Harry is determined to keep his free will, and he sets out to uncover the true extent of his responsibilities and limitations. As he tries to navigate this new world, he also has to deal with the return of an old nemesis, aided by an unknown benefactor, is targeting Harry's loved ones and threatening to destroy everything Harry holds dear.

By the ending of Cold Days, the series has evolved with major changes. Harry Dresden manages to retain his free will, which is quite an impressive feat. Moreover, some of the major characters have undergone significant changes. James Marsters' narration is excellent, bringing the characters to life in a way that is truly captivating. Overall, the book has set the stage for the next installment in the series, promising a lot of interesting developments and surprises in the future.
