Heir to the Duke by Jane Ashford
3.0

Before the book opens, Nathaniel Gresham, oldest son of a duke, has been courting Lady Violet Devere. The book opens right before their wedding when Violet is internally rejoicing about the fact that she is going to get to escape from her overbearing grandmother. She has a secret list of things she wants to do as soon as she's out from underneath her grandmother's thumb. And she helps to convince Nathaniel to do at least one. Well, actually several... up to and including going to Brighton. She is delighted to learn that her old friend Marianne is also in town with her husband. But not all is as it seems. Marianne is carrying on a dalliance. Violet doesn't want to get dragged into it but it's hard to turn away from an old friend. Her grandmother and then her parents also show up in town, trying to change her back into the insipid wallflower she had been. One of the tactics they use is bringing out a long-hidden family secret.
This was an okay story but I didn't really see the connection between the H/H. And I'm not sure the purpose of Marianne and her story.
