“Don’t make you life about the loss. Make it about the love.”
There is a lot of complex worldbuilding which did sometimes make it hard to understand. I had to make a note on my phone which I’ve never done before and add all of the key terms 😭 The magic system was super interesting and it just got better! There was some insane twists in this book omg, things I definitely didn’t see coming!
Bree is a badass! Omg I felt so bad for her though because she goes through a LOT in this book. I know the rest of the series will be no different but she showed how strong she was while also showing that it’s ok to admit that you need help and don’t need to be bear everything alone. I love Nick! Yes I’ll admit that Bree herself started to like him very quickly but he is just the sweetest guy 😫 I just know this love triangle will wreck me as I do love them both! My thoughts on Sel in this book can be described as complicated…I know he’s very loved but without spoiling I’ll say that for a lot of the book he wasn’t the nicest. I liked him then I wasn’t sure then my thoughts changed again near the end but there a time I was confused on why everyone loves him so much 😭
The book deals with many important topics which was wonderful but often heartbreaking to see. Grief is a big part of Bree’s journey and is dealt with in such a meaningful way. The topic of racism in this book was heavy as Bree is the only black person among the very white secret society. There was also great representation with many LQBTQ+ characters.
The only reason why I dropped my rating a bit is because there was a lot of information coming at once and it did make it hard to process. I struggled to understand everything straight away but when I did it was worth it! Overall the book was really amazing and I am excited to continue!
