Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

adventurous dark slow-paced

3.5

There’s an interesting cyberpunk heist story in here, but it’s muddied by
long infodumps about ancient languages and religions
. After I picked up one key piece of info and those sections kept coming, I just skipped them and I don’t think I missed much. In general I think this book would have benefitted from some tighter editing, there’s stuff that never really becomes relevant and I’m not sure why it was left in. World building I guess, but in at least one case it’s building a part of the world we never go back to. But this led to very uneven pacing, and didn’t hold my attention consistently. I did love the character Y.T., but I don’t think she should have been a 15 year old girl. Early 20s would have worked better, and would have made the
sudden sexualization
of her less jarring and gross.
