Peach Girl, Vol. 1
by Miwa Ueda
I really enjoyed this book. Shojo can sometimes be either badly drawn or have some pretty terrible messages or characters. This has one awful character, Sae, but she's a believable character and her actions are not justified by the story or the other characters. And it's very nice to see a female lead in a shojo that is confident and defends herself without being framed as masculine. Since this series has a pretty simple premise, I'll go against my typical review and do a brief summary.
Protagonist Momo Adachi has been infatuated with Toji since junior high, but her self-consciousness about her tan skin makes her reluctant to approach him. Her "best friend" Sae, who is jealous of Momo also constantly makes things more difficult for Momo and Toji. Highly recommend this.
