The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did) by Philippa Perry

5.0

Thoughtful, kind hearted book. I can't say I fully agree with everything, but it led to a lot of good conversations with my wife. ♥️✨ Top takeaways:

  1. You should put aside any blocks from your own childhood that inhabit your warmth.
  2. A child needs a parent to be a container for their emotions without getting overwhelmed by them (like a therapist may for an adult)
  3. Emotions don't have a mixing board - they just have a master volume. You can't fade out sadness and pain and fade up happiness and joy. You turn one down, they all go down. You need to acknowledge negative emotions.
