I read the manga first.
A whole cast of likeable characters, and a dense but likeable protagonist. It's a super enjoyable novel.
What's really nice about this is that we get to read from Anne's perspective, something that wasn't really covered in the anime or the manga! It's the part right before the epilogue, and we learn about Anne's backstory. I think I would have gotten the light novel, if at least to read her part. Their dynamic is amazing, and even more so after reading her backstory.
