Peril at End House
by Agatha Christie
Now I enjoyed this, it's classic Christie of a well-written straightforward quick read.
It also is a Poirot and Hasting adventure (with a surprise visit from Japp) which I always find fun to read. I just love the banter that these two have together and how they play off each other. I love their friendship probably because of the portrayal of David Suchet and Hugh Fraser from the Poirot adaptations and my fond memories of those. But a lot of times I find their banter funny and just enjoyable two old friends' personalities bouncing off each other.
The mystery is super obvious about who the killer is and why they committed the crime. My mother (who is horrible at solving mysteries) knew who the killer was when I just described the plot and murder to her. But that doesn't take away the enjoyment for me. I think also because it's one of the few Christies where she gives all the clues and facts in an orderly fashion by Poirot for the reader. So the reader can work through all the clues and facts easily and work alongside Poirot as he figures out the crime.
Also, it does give some interesting looks into the British aristocrats how the world has changed for them and they will not really enjoy the same power and control they once did. How for some the luck has run out and their estates are crumbling around them. How the Depression is coming in for everyone and not even past luck can protect you. It's also one of the few Christie where drugs are free-flowing everywhere.
Overall I had a good time with this and would recommend this book.
