The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson

2.0

Some books are meant to be the kind you read then you feel like reading something real quick and without the necessary worldbuilding to blow your mind.

"The Storm Crow" by Kalyn Josephson is a YA fantasy with a very interesting premise (crow riders and a depressed heroine) but it fails to capture the readers' imagination. I really had a hard time connecting with everyone and the ploy was so easy to follow, that's why I finished the audiobook quicker than usual.

The narration was pleasant and Anthia was a multidimensional character, the writing is excellent and the descriptions were rich. Nevertheless, the book simply didn't meet my expectations as it simply resembled many other YA books and the intriguing premise simply remained as it is: an intriguing premise.

The descriptions of depression were accurate though and I could sometimes identify with Anthia's turmoil as I've been through hard times myself. The plot, the character arcs and the romance were all lukewarm and the worldbuilding almost non-existent.

I might read the second book just for finishing this duology but really, it's like another Goodreads user said about this book, I'll pretty much forget about the book by the end of the year.
